Usually in Judo, practitioners are penalized for being too stiff armed because it is stalling and it is too defensive. This “yoko tomoe nage” is a nifty solution of the situation.

For you guys wanting to know how to do this no gi, use a Russian Tie grip.
Depending on whether or not you use a figure 4 for the Russian Tie, will
determine whether or not you will be throwing with a shoulder lock or using
a safer throw.
