Compensatory transitions – unlike voluntary transitions – occur when your opponent begins to turn into you / and/or begins to form frames with his arms. In order maintain in side mount, we have to compensate for our opponent's advancement in position by moving to another side mount position. Each position offers unique transition and submission opportunities. The key is to utilize a system of transitions and positions necessary to maintain side mount even against an experienced opponent using appropriate escape techniques

thanks for the interest and the compliment – much appreciated! I will post
a video of some live action sparring with a break down of transitions soon!
Please do! This video was one of the best ive ever seen.
Hey thanks for the interest – yes, sprawling on toes is VERY important –
many would argue its the best position. Check out Trumpet Dan at grappling
basics for some awesome side control stuff: off hand various positions are:
pressure pin, wrestler’s pin, sprawl pin, kesa Gatame, reverse kesa, North
south, 100 kilos – the real art / science is the learning how to flow
through the INFINITY of transitions. I’ll put another video up soon to
explain! thanks
