Side Control Submission Triangle from Bottom Side Control

4

In this video I show a sneaky submission from Side Control bottom. Keep in mind I would never bait my opponent with this submission by allowing them to go to Side Control but if you find yourself there then this is a good option. The first thing that you need to do is get your opponent's arm between your legs. You can feed it there on your own or you can wait for your opponent to put it there naturally. What I find is this move works the best against wrestlers that put their arm between your leg and try to smash you.Once you get that arm between your legs you will want to change your body angle. This allows you to catch the back side of his/her arm with your thigh and make it difficult to pull their arm out. If they do choose to pull their arm out they will first have to move forward with the arm (reference the video to see what I'm talking about. This little angling of your body also makes it easier to clear the head and get a good secure grip with your thigh on the side of the neck. I highly recommend pushing on your opponent's head to get space but you must practice this transition because if you push too hard or in the wrong direction it will lead to your opponent escaping. As a general rule make sure to push towards your feet and not directly up. Once you get the head stuffed between your legs you'll want to remove the slight angle to square your hips up for the finish. After you get a good triangle lock with your legs it's time to try and control that back arm (the one between your legs). You can pull on that arm to tighten the position and then squeeze to finish. Remember that you do not have any control over the top of the head and it can make finishing the triangle tough. Resist the urge to stretch away with your legs and squeeze your knees together (again reference the video). If you need to power it up, you can pull on that arm to get a little more pressure. In the event you cant finish from this position the other arm is very close to you and you can use it to reverse armbar or kimura. Play with both the triangle finishes and the auxiliary finishes that come if you cant finish the initial choke.
