This video demonstrates a trick to help you get out of side control. I get a lot of questions of how to escape and this idea may help you so your opponent doesn't "shoulder smash" you into looking away so you can't do the basic hip escape to replace the guard. Thanks for the comment. I mentioned most of the time you would like your
arms in good positions like an underhook or framing the neck. When you
understand the control that is demonstrated, you will feel that the top
person does not have an armbar because of the bottom man’s control of the
position and tempo. The key is to control the man with your shoulder before
