That is a great observation! I have trained with both styles and depending
on the situation may got back and forth. That being said, I USUALLY prefer
to have my knee-tip as my pivot point so that I may remain more mobile. In
order to overcome the sweep I angle my shin away from the “sweep-attacking”
hand unless Im baiting him to expose that limb in which case I will use it
to pin his attacking arm.
