Luis “Limao” Heredia, Ippon Seoi Nage Variation: Jiu-Jitsu Magazine, Issue #30.

Some of jiu-jitsu’s stars have interesting nicknames such as Buchecha, which means fat cheeks (due to being overweight) and Preguica, meaning sloth or lazy. In the case of Luis “Limao” Heredia, he was given his nickname by a friend who saw Luis kiss a girl and she (allegedly) made a face like she had just tasted a sour lemon. With friends like these, who needs enemies. (LOL *kidding*)

As a true pioneer in the sport, Luis has seen it all in terms of the rise of jiu-jitsu; especially of that within the United States. Four years before America really saw what jiu-jitsu was thanks to Royce Gracie’s involvement in UFC 1, Luis traveled here alongside the Gracies to set up shop in Los Angeles, CA and never look back. He has trained alongside many great practitioners as well as MMA fighters. Eventually Luis felt he needed a change of scenery and now runs an amazing academy in Maui, HI. You can find out more information about him and his academy at, as well as like it on Facebook under Maui Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

In this video Luis demonstrates a variation of the classic judo throw the Ippon Seoi Nage aka single arm throw. Assisting him with the demonstration is Stefan Kocev.
