From what the camera shows us it looks like you are forming the sankaku
only around ukes neck (no arm in the sankaku). Wouldnt that be illegal due
to the risk for uke’s neck?

+negao azul 1. Everyone realized he was unconscious when he flipped over, but the pin time had elapsed. 2.The rules of any sport matter in absolutely every sporting event, I really don't understand your statement that the rules of Judo don't matter in a Judo match. Also this choke is highly irregular and very low percentage, I've only seen it work like twice, and I've watched many Judo matches(probably a couple thousand or more). The referee from her vantage point above the fighters could hardly be expected to know if the Shime Waza was effective(it was being done from below) and… Read more »

+JudoMateo You and I couldn't have know what was on. But if a referee that close can't make  the right call, He/she doesn't deserve the work. There is no excuse. Plus the guy on the top was flipped unconcious. As soon as she realized  this she knew what she had to do. So in the end she still made two mistakes: 1)  not realizing  white gi was unconscious when flipped over.2) wrong call on the winner.Rules and playing possum don't even matter here.

You nor I (nor anyone but the combatants) had any way of knowing that the choke would be effective, until his opponent passed out, in reality since it was obviously a blood choke maybe even said opponent didn't realize until he woke up. Do you practice Judo because if you do you should know that there's only the slightest difference in an ineffective choke and one that will put you out, some Judoka will play possum on an ineffective choke just to lure their opponents into wasting energy. Regarding your point about first aid the medic was entering the mat… Read more »

+JudoMateo So she shouldn't have been a referee. The worst part is that she didn't even applied first aid procedure in this kind of case. She did all wrong from begining to the end.

The referee had no way of knowing if the choke was effective. Unfortunately for Matt the effects weren't obvious until the Osaekomi  time had run out, stuff like this happens in all combat sports.
