That’s a huge generalization, though, more and more BJJ gyms are cross
training with wrestlers and judokas to improve their stand up as well as to
add something to their ground game. Judokas are a lot more
balanced, especially European judokas. Second place is great, you don’t have
to be a black belt in BJJ to have both skillsets or anything you just have
to focus on training different techniques instead of just learning them for
demonstrational and belt promotion purposes.
You’re stupid. I also train both. 99% of BJJ schools places very little
emphasis on throws. 99% of Judo schools place very little emphasis on
ground game–though Judo is not as bad about this imbalance as BJJ. When
someone with both skillsets enters a tournament, they very often clean up.
As a mediocre judoka, I just got second at a tournament, and in the novice
category armbars weren’t even allowed–that meant only pins and chokes for
groundwork. I still cleaned up. And I’m only a blue belt.
I would of done judo first, because its a great foundation for moving in to
BJJ, but BJJ teaches judo throws as well, and its crazy. I almost popped my
arm today.
