Half Guard Submission Straight Armbar

3

Out of the three moves that I have shown from this position this is the lowest percentage. Not because it is a bad technique, but more so because it easily defended. The good news is when your opponent bends their arm it's often right back into that Kimura from the previous video and you can use this move as a threat to set up the pass or the Kimura. The trickiest thing about this move is the hip placement and the faith you are placing in squeezing your thighs together. You can probably set up a lot of taps in the academy with this move because you will be able to lock out your opponents arm. But please keep in mind that when doing this in competition it's going to be difficult to get the tap without actually committing to the move (meaning bringing your center line over your opponents). This can sometimes lead to being rolled, which is a HUGE frustration when you had the dominate position. To avoid getting rolled I suggest that you get comfortable posting on your head. It is ok to put your head on the back of your knuckles or on the floor but I suggest you do that PRIOR to your opponent shrimping or bumping. If your head is already on the floor it will not put nearly as much pressure on your neck as it will if you try to base when you need it (as a side note, they both work but one will leave you with a sore neck the next day). Also please reference the video to look at my body placement. The hip control is a little different than most people have practiced. The last step is the same as the Straight Armbar from Side Control. Make sure to put pressure in opposition to the thumb!

If you don’t apply that squeeze with your thighs… you’re gonna have a bad
day.

Great details on the squeeze and where to apply the pressure on the arm
bar. That’s money move.

this fast move is based on such a small detail…how many many submissions
pass in front of our eyes just because we miss these details? thank you
once again for a super detailed presentation of a trivial but yet unknown
technique.
