That grip is easier because your arms are in a more natural position. Keep
your elbows as close to your ribs & to your side as possible. Whenever your
elbow starts to approach your midline the muscles in your shoulder and back
move away from their optimal length. Its another reason we never reach
across the body. For instance, wrap someones arm around their neck as if in
a self rear naked choke and hold their wrist with the same side arm from
behind the neck. It takes no effort to hold it there.
