Open Guard Pass Zorro Pass

7

Passing the Open Guard can be very difficult, especially against someone that has good hip movement. For those people with really great hip movement the Double Under Stacking Pass is great. The only problem is good BJJ players never let you lock your hands together around the hips. The Zorro Pass was shown to me by a great black belt in Brazil. This pass is extremely effective and easy to do although it does have a few key points that you need to focus on.The first key point is to make sure you get a palm up grip on the far side lapel. This grip does not need to be high like some of the stacking passes that you have seen before, actually much to the contrary. It is important to have a low grip near your opponent's bellybutton. Make sure this grip is tight with very little slack. It's an odd mix, as the grip is low, but should still provide some stress on the lapel.Once you get this grip the whole move is about hiding the elbow. If you hide the elbow effectively this pass will be nearly impossible to stop, even if they take both hands and push on your hip as it comes around the corner. Do not get caught up in thinking this is a quick pass. Once you get the grips start moving your hips as shown in the video. In the event that your opponent does push on your hips its important to continue putting pressure on their hands with your hips. Then you can either switch directions or use your free hand to clear the leg off the back of your head but YOU MUST KEEP THE ELBOW HIDDEN. Reference the video to see what I am talking about.

I love how you go over the pass from every angle and you reiterate the
importance of the elbow tuck and hand grip placement each time. It’s that
sort of repetition that makes things stick with me. Oss!
